  • Lacoste Henry

Amazing house-workshop, built in 1935 by the Tournai architect Henry Lacoste for the artist-painter Pion.

Although built shortly before WW2, in the modernist era, this house is unclassifiable, Lacoste is inspired by his incessant research on antiquity and the Middle East where he actively participated in excavations.

Lacoste was especially respected for his academic past where he was unanimously recognized.

This house is built on the ruins of an old Romanesque abbey, placed on a base of cut stones.

The street-side facade is made of red bricks whose installation work is very elaborate. The entrance gate and the garage door made of bronze are reminiscent of the ancient era (Roman, Greek).

The garden side façade is also made of cut stone and brickwork and has a large window lighting the artist's studio.

The green tiled roofs add to the uniqueness of this house.

The house is in excellent condition, and is a true testament to Lacoste's creativity.
