A friend of Flor Van Reeth, his neighbor at number 178, Jef Huygh built his own house here in 1923.
The architect was inspired by both English Arts & Crafts and the Vienna Secession, resulting in a very personal, expressionist style, characterized by the opulence of his ornaments such as carved stone, ironwork, and the unusual shape of the symmetrical facade.
Built on a hard stone base, the facade is composed of red bricks and white natural stone. The visible roof between the two gables is made of orange tiles.
Each floor is treated differently; the ground floor features a beautiful double entrance door surrounded by sculpted figures inspired from the Renaissance.
The ironwork is particularly elaborate, very Art Deco. The first floor has three bays and six tall windows topped with bas-reliefs featuring bee motifs, also present on the ironwork.
The top floor, with its two gables, features three oval-shaped oculi.
All the windows are decorated with small colored panes.
The building is in relatively good condition and has been listed since June 1988.
