Architect Lacoste, originally from Tournai, better known for his academic duties, his historical and archaeological research, nevertheless left some important architectural testimonies.

Called by the Reine Elisabeth Fondation, for the construction of this building dedicated to medical research and international exchanges, Lacoste will be associated with Lucien De Vestel.

Built from 1927 to 29, the building offers a rather classic facade on the outside with however some particularities, such as this very worked cornice underlined by a long frieze in green, blue and black marbrite plates.

The main entrance of the building, off-center, presents a beautiful brick work, and a coffered ceiling also decorated with colored marbrite plates.

The most spectacular is inside where Lacoste gives free rein to his imagination, inspired by his passions for ancient Egypt.

The walls are decorated with the same bright colors, green, blue, white and black.

The entrance hall, the main staircase, the columns topped with frosted glass corollas compose a spectacular setting, enhanced by the beautiful stained glass windows of the staircase. The floors are a combination of red granito and red, black and green ceramic stoneware!

Building partially listed in 2012
