Diongre Joseph

Architect Joseph Diongre designed this "eccentric" house on behalf of the writer-poet Jef Mennekens in 1927.

The house, named Withuis, departs quite significantly from the Art Deco style of the time, leaning towards avant-garde geometric forms. It dates from 1927.

Everything here was designed by the architect, Joseph Diongre, down to the smallest detail.

Of particular note are the monogram of the poet Jef Mannekens on the front door and the name of the house to the left of the entrance.

The wrought-iron railings surrounding the small garden feature the house number on one side and an inkwell and quill pen, the poet's tools, on the other. J

oseph Diongre was chosen to design the Maison de la Radio (INR) on Place Flagey in 1935. What a journey it was between these two projects!

Listed as a historical monument in 1985, the house was fully restored in 2026, respecting the original design. All the woodwork is original.

It once again truly lives up to its name, Withuis. Only a final floor was added, visible from the street.
