LOUIS-HERMAN DE KONINCK

Louis Herman de Koninck born in Brussels (Saint-Gilles) on March 31, 1896, died in Brussels (Uccle) on October 21, 1984.

Like so many other Belgian architects, De Koninck studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. After graduating, he became interested in prefabrication and industrial standardization. Formal rigor, constructive logic, economy, light and space were at the center of his concerns. His creations are cubic, built in thin concrete sails.

In the same spirit, to counter the arduousness of domestic work, he developed functional and modular kitchen furniture that was marketed from 1931 under the CUBEX brand. Furniture that is still available today and sought after by modernist style lovers.

From 1940 to 1974, Louis-Herman De Koninck taught at La Cambre, a school created in 1927 by Henri Van de Velde.
