Antoine Courtens, born in Saint-Josse-Ten-Noode (Brussels) on March 13, 1899, died in Brussels on June 21, 1969.
From 1918 to 1924, Courtens studied at the Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Antwerp, where he was taught by Victor Horta.
In 1925, he was one of the winners of the major architectural Rome competition.
A leading representative of Art Deco in Belgium, he designed the “Palais de la Folle Chanson” and the “Hôtel Haerens”.
For financier Louis Empain, he built a residential and sports complex in Quebec, the Domaine de l'Estérel.
In 1931, Antoine Courtens, then a member of the Société centrale d'Architecture de Belgique, was made a Knight of the Order of the Crown.
